I did some research and quickly discovered that the challenge is not in finding techniques to grow your blog and build traffic - it’s figuring out which ones actually work!

I found myself overloaded with too much information on how to drive traffic to my blog - from pay per click advertising, banner advertising, article marketing, search engine marketing, video marketing, and on and on and on...

One thing I am good at is taking action and I knew that was the best way to solve my too much information problem.

Since I had little money at the time I decided to focus only on free methods to grow my blog traffic.

I knew Google could be the answer if I learned how to optimize my blog for search engines, because organic traffic from search engines is free traffic.

After spending quite a bit of time testing different techniques to get traffic from Google, including many that didn’t work, and some that only worked temporarily, I eventually learned what I believe are the most important elements.

So here is the answer: I can narrow it down to three really important techniques that go into building a successful blog. They are -

1. Content - I made sure every single day I was producing regular content for my blog.
2. The internal structure and the keywords I used on my blog - I had to make sure I was targeting the right kind of audience and I was writing the right articles with the right keywords.
   
   (This might seem simple enough, but if you do a little bit of research into what people are interested in and how your blog can actually be structured to target the right keywords – what are the most important sections of this site internally when it comes to those right keywords – it can make a big difference.)
3. Link Building - Attracting links from other websites and blogs to your blog.

That’s a very simplified three-step system for growing a successful blog and getting a lot of traffic, but that is all there is too it.

The Real Secret Is Your “Content”
But Do You Know How To Use It?

Content is the first ingredient that drives every other aspect of your blog.

1. It’s impossible to structure your site well and use the right keywords if you aren’t producing content for those keywords to exist in.
2. You don’t get links to your site unless you have good content for people to link to.
3. Most marketing techniques, if they are free, require some kind of content - you exchange your content for traffic.

After studying how to get traffic from search engines, I went to work to build my blog and focused first and foremost on producing regular content.

I put it a lot of effort early on, but eventually I found myself in a situation where the traffic kept coming and I was working less and less.

I have a consistent 2,000 to 4,000 visitors coming to my blog every single day.

On average 100 people join my email newsletter every single day, and I don’t have to do anything else than make sure my blog publishes fresh content on a regular basis.

Best of all, I don’t work any more, besides making sure my blog continues to publish valuable content, to keep that traffic coming.

Today it comes on autopilot because of the work I did when I first started my blog.
